If you’re as excited for the royal wedding as we are, join us on Saturday, May 19th at Anomalie HQ for “A Royal Sample Sale,” starting at 11am. We will be recording the wedding and playing it back it while you peruse our sale for inspiration for your own big day!

If you’re a royal family fanatic like us, you’ve been eagerly awaiting Prince Harry’s wedding since his older brother William said “I do” to Kate Middleton in April 2011—in a gorgeous lace-sleeved dress that brides are still pining over today, we might add. As Kate can attest, marrying into the royal family as a commoner is quite a transition, but possibly even more so for “Suits” actress Meghan Markle. Since she is American, becoming British royalty comes with some fairly drastic lifestyle changes.

After announcing their engagement at the end of 2017, Meghan moved into Nottingham Cottage—Prince Harry’s two-bedroom property at Kensington Place and William and Kate’s first marital home together. Once the couple marries on May 19th, Meghan will have to wait three years before applying for U.K. citizenship. Meghan will continue to pay U.S. income taxes and will decide whether or not to denounce her American citizenship once she becomes an official citizen of the U.K.

The Queen is likely to bestow a Dukedom to Prince Harry on his wedding day, which would make Meghan a Duchess, just like Kate. If for whatever reason Queen Elizabeth decides that she doesn’t want to change Harry’s title, Meghan will take on his current title and become Her Royal Highness Princess Henry of Wales.

Unlike her sister-in-law-to-be, Meghan is not a future queen. Following the birth of William and Kate’s third child, Prince Louis, on April 23rd, Prince Harry is now sixth in line for the throne behind the newest member of the royal family. Once William’s children have kids of their own, it will become even more unlikely that Harry will ever see the throne, meaning Meghan will inevitably live out her days as a Duchess instead—not a bad gig, if we do say so ourselves! Instead of princes and princesses, the couple’s children will be named Lords and Ladies of Mountbatten-Windsor and assume their spots further and further in the line of succession.prince-harry-meghan-markle-queen-elizabeth-royal-wedding-royal-family-news-royals-buckingham-palace-sandringham-estate-901204

So what exactly does a Duchess do if she isn’t set to take the throne beside her husband? Meghan’s role within the royal family will be similar to Kate’s.Every member of the royal family is obliged to carry out any duties assigned to them by Queen Elizabeth. For Meghan, this will mean attending official events, performing charity work, and traveling with Prince Harry—much of which she has been doing since the royal engagement was announced.

Watch Meghan and Harry tie the knot on May 19th, and stay tuned for our thoughts on the most highly anticipated detail—the dress! Meghan’s look will undoubtedly be trending for years to come, so schedule a call with one of our stylists to learn how you can get the same look for your special day.
