Welcome to the Anomalie newlywed game, where we introduce you to upcoming brides and their soon-to-be grooms! Get to know Justin and Melissa, two fitness fanatics; you may recognize her from her popular social media account, @mel.fitness.freak!
These Canadian cuties are getting married in a dreamy ocean-side ceremony in winter 2020! We chatted with the pair about their relationship, engagement and pineapple-themed wedding plans!
Dish the details! How did you first meet?
Melissa: We met through friends of ours. We started talking on Facebook actually and to be honest I was not sure if I was interested in Justin at first, he wanted to text but I would not even give him my phone number. We talked for a couple weeks from morning until night until finally I was convinced we should talk over text, he wanted to take me out on a date and I still was unsure about him being someone I would be interested in or if we had the same likes and wants in life.
He would ask to take me out day in and day out, until finally my best friend convinced me that I didn’t have anything to lose and I should step outside my comfort zone every once and awhile, so I agreed to finally go on a date with him.
Where did you have your first kiss?
Melissa: It was after a couple dates and I could tell he wanted to kiss me and usually he would just drop me off, but he wanted to walk me to my doorstep so I knew it was coming. He said goodbye and then kissed me and after he did he started screaming “YES” because he was so happy and it was 11 pm, he was so cute and absolutely hilarious.
Justin: On the front step of her parents house.
When did you know he/she was the one?
Melissa: I think I knew Justin was the one when we became best friends, where we could not do anything without each other; he was the person I told all my secrets to. I think I knew the most when we challenged our relationship together such as traveling together for long periods, doing and experiencing things that were outside our comfort zone, doing over 30+ Spartan Race events side by side.
Justin: I couldn’t pinpoint it to a certain time or moment, more a feeling that you become increasingly aware of until you just know.
Tell us about your engagement:
Melissa: Our first ever date he picked me up in his Mustang, we are also huge into hiking and being outdoors. On June 15th 2018, it was our 5-year anniversary, I woke up and he handed me keys to a 2018 convertible Mustang that he had rented for us for the day. It was gorgeous outside, 35-degree weather. We headed to Gatineau Park to go hiking and do some tail running. In Gatineau Park there are many nice spots were you could sit and look at the views, every time were up there we go the same one. Justin had taken me there first thing and had gotten down on one knee and proposed. It was super cute, was exactly like our first date 5 years ago.
Justin: We went to a spot we visited often when we were dating in Gatineau Park.
When is the BIG day?
Melissa and Justin: We are going to be getting married January 16, 2020 on an 11-day Caribbean cruise and will be getting married on the beach in Grand Cayman
What do you imagine you will walk down the aisle in?
Melissa: I want a more fitted lace dress that looks somewhat beachy looking, with a very low cut back and no sleeves that has a small train that can drag behind.
Justin: Probably a pineapple suit.
Will you have one wedding dress or will you change up the look for the after party?
Melissa: Yes, I want to have two dresses. Since our wedding is going to be on the beach and our after party on the cruise, I want two different dresses that suit me in both atmospheres.
Will you have one wedding suit or will you change up the look for the after party?
Justin: Definitely change it up.
What is the vision for your big day?
Melissa: I want it to be luxurious, dreamy and have a beachy rustic look to it. I want it to be very simple but on a beautiful beach, with a rustic driftwood wedding arch, simple white chairs and palm leaves/tropical flowers all around. In addition, I am obsessed with pineapples, so there will some of those, along with Justin in a pineapple suit.
Justin: Beachy and fun.
Favorite memory together?
Melissa: Traveling to the Caribbean together yearly. Swimming with stingrays . Running over 30+ Spartan Races of all distances all over the world- 5k 15k and 30k . All our road trips together . Buying our first house together last year.
Justin: Our first vacation together, the first time we saw the blue water and laid on the beach.
Favorite TV show to watch together?
Melissa: I make him watch The Bachelorette with me every Monday, but we love watching anything to do with fitness or endurance running documentaries on Netflix
Justin: The Bachelorette
Favorite thing about your fiancé?
Melissa: He is the sweetest person I know, would do anything for anyone just to help and has such a big heart. Always knows how to put a smile on my face no matter what.
Justin: Her smile.
